The age of accessing the internet anywhere at any time continues to blossom with the announcement of Starlink's $599 Mini roaming. While the mobile service has been available to jet-setters and overlanders for some time, this new portable device opens the worldwide web to a much wider (and sometimes more compact) range of travelers. It is small enough to fit in a backpack, tough enough to ride along in a UTV, and it brings high-speed internet to users wherever they go. Sounds like a great addition to the essentials list for side-by-side overlanders or even as a camp accessory to multi-day ATV trips to remote places, doesn't it?

Starlink has been around since 2019, and users have been enjoying the company's services across the globe ever since. The technology brings effectively high-speed internet to the company's devices, regardless of where they are, so you can work (or whatever else it is you do on the internet) from anywhere at any time. In turn, this means that you can always connect with others when on extended remote adventures. Truck-based overlanders have been using the full-size Starlink devices for a few years now, allowing for the documenting and uploading of videos and stories which so many of us follow, read, and watch. However, this larger product wasn't really a viable option for ATV or UTV use as it would require its own traveling case, accessories, et al. Starlink has heard our cries and officially remedied this limitation.

The Starlink Mini is quite a bit smaller, with its 10.2x10.2x1.45" meaning it has about half the footprint of the full-size Starlink unit. The Mini is also only 0.44 pounds, so it can be brought along on trips with minimal impact on payload. It has integrated WiFi, an ethernet port, kickstand, pipe adapter, 49-foot power cable, and plug-in power supply band. Pricing for the new unit is $599 (plus $20 in shipping) which brings with it a 30-day trial after which users must purchase either a Regional or Mini Roam plan. The former is $150/month and gives users unlimited mobile data with the caveat that some roaming may bring about extra charges. The latter is only $50/month but limits data to 50GB during that time, though it does not have any extra charges for roaming.

Regardless of plan, while we're big proponents of getting away from the hustle-and-bustle of everyday life and disconnecting from the internet for a day (or more) at every given chance, Starlink has brought an incredible tool to the world which has allowed for connectivity unlike ever before. And it seems this new Mini promises to only further that.
